Books

View: Statement | Details

Written language changed human perception of our world. Thanks to Johannes Gutenberg, that shift became a collective evolutionary transformation with the printing press. I photograph in used bookstores because titles and cover art, cracked spines and dog-eared pages portray the society I am a part of. Books bring knowledge and possibilities of redemption. Often, we regard them as our most treasured possessions. For some individuals, “book lust,” is the result. For others, books are consumed and then relinquished. Something is left behind when a book has been read, and my work attempts to capture this essence.
